The Corvette C3, designed by Russian Zora Arkus-Duntov, was modeled after the Mako Shark II created in 1965. This body style was produced from 1968 to 1982. The Corvette was not only one of the coolest-looking American sports cars of its time, but it was also one of the fastest. Capable of reaching speeds of up to 140 mph with little effort, the car was equipped with specialized tires designed to reliably sustain and stabilize the vehicle at such high velocities.

In an effort to pack more power into a smaller package, Chevrolet focused on developing smaller-displacement engines, and in 1970, they introduced the LT-1. This 350 cubic inch engine was factory-rated at an unprecedented 370 horsepower for a sports car of that era.

The history of flame designs on hot rods can be traced back to a specific incident in 1938. On October 20th of that year, a photograph captured the moment when driver Fred Friday's car alighted in flames due to a fuel leak as he raced through Gilmore Stadium. This dramatic event inspired hot rod and muscle car enthusiasts across the country, as the idea of a car being driven so furiously that it emitted flames captivated their imagination.

The trend of "nose art" - the decorative painting of an aircraft's front fuselage - emerged during World War II. Originally intended to identify friendly planes, this practice quickly evolved into an expression of individuality. The showcasing of aircraft "nose art" to the general public helped spread the idea, and by the 1950s, the custom hot rod craze had reached its peak. Returning veterans were drawn to both the thrill of racing and the new outlet for self-expression.

The Flames: AFX Wild Fire Flames are proprietary custom designs, but they were not the first to feature flames on the side of a hot rod. The concept of painted flames on hot rods was inspired by the real flames that were observed in that fateful 1938 incident. The visual impact of a car seemingly emitting flames during a high-speed race captured the public's attention and became a defining characteristic of the hot rod and muscle car culture.

The chassis of the Corvette C3 featured a short wheelbase, measuring 1.5 inches less than previous models. This design choice was likely made to enhance the car's agility and responsiveness on the road or track.
